Over the last weekend at Estoril, the FIM clarified the rules about teams testing their 2012 bikes. As noted already, Ducati have already put in 2 days of testing at Mugello, taking advantage of the loophole in the regulations that prohibits testing of bikes that are “eligible for MotoGp” Since the 2012 bikes plainly aren’t, then they were able to do so. Honda have also tested their new bike in Japan.
So, the FIM has now stated that..“During the 2011 season manufacturers may test for a total 8 rider/days with their contracted riders. This will apply retrospectively for the 2011 season.” This clears the way for any manufacturer to make a serious start. The rule, however, applies retrospectively, meaning that Ducati have already used up 2 out of their 8 days!
The FIM also clarified (or actually stated in full for the first time), the controversial Claiming Rule that will govern the production-engined 1000cc class come 2012. As is usual with rules, it’s pretty complicated so I’ll provide the link to crash.net that gives you all the details.
