Today was the day when I was going to find out if I could make it further than around the block. Together with my brother Paul, on his VFR750 and my good friend Taina on her VFR800 (VTEC) we headed off for a run to the Grey Gum Cafe on the Putty Road. Coincidentally, Taina shares our surname though we are not in any way related.
It was a wonderful day, the weather was perfect and the traffic was mostly tolerable.
Coffee at the always excellent Peppercorn cafe at Mulgoa…
Lunch at the Grey Gum at Putty, renewing acquaintances with owners, John and Kim…
And a guided tour of a very special collection of motorcycles at one of the big Sydney bike shops on the way home. Among the exhibits this very believable replica of Mike Hailwood’s 6 cylinder Honda Grand Prix bike, based on a CBX1000/6.
It was a fabulous day. I arrived home sore but pleased to have done 460kms in great company on a terrific day. Can’t say that I’ll be doing it again soon, but it’s nice to know that I can.
