No, it’s not a mis-print. While we in the southern hemisphere shiver through winter, our northern counterparts are swimming and enjoying the summer. And nowhere is this more evident than the MotoGp calendar. Talk about packing it in. Here’s the summer timetable.
5 June Catalunya, 12 June Silverstone, 25 June Assen, 3 July Mugello, 17 July Sachsenring, 24 July Laguna Seca, 14 August Brno and 28 August Indianapolis (by the way, whoever the genius was that thought up the timing of those last 3 should be taken out and hung somewhere, USA, Czech Republic and then back to the USA again, I mean, come on)
The reason I’m raising this matter is that the height of summer with races coming along thick and fast almost every weekend and no testing in between is NOT a good time to be developing a new bike. Surely Ducati are already thinking that 2011 is really a development year for 2012?
A coupe of interesting articles for you to read, courtesy of one of my regular readers who seems to have the ability to sniff out the good stuff.
An excellent article by respected journalist Dennis Noyes on Rossi’s complicated new bike. Some very interesting thoughts on Ducati’s engine woes as well.
Chris Martin’s article detailing the stats of Casey Stoner’s amazing rise to the top. Martin maintains that, with Stoner already having passed all but a handful of the greatest-ever riders in terms of race wins, he is not getting the credit he deserves from the world media.
Mugello this weekend, back to a Sunday race. Name your poison.
Incidentally, speaking of summer, my wonderful wife heads off next Tuesday to spend the northern summer with her extended family in Finland. After all the dramas that she has had to endure in the last 2 years, she really needs this break and I know it will do her the world of good.
