I’m now way past my self-imposed return-to-work date. In fact, it’s now a little more than 8 months since the accident. The problem is here..
As you can see, the two broken ends of the femur are not healing. This is because the two pins in the upper plate have stopped the rod from sliding further up in the bone and so the two ends are being kept apart. Now that these screws have been removed, my last report suggests that the ends may be growing closer together but only marginally. Should the rod have become seized up inside the bone (the likely scenario), the only way to get the two ends together is to wait for a long, long time until they grow together, or open up the knee (again), remove the rod and replace it so that the bone isn’t stuck to it any more. Obviously, further surgery is the least favoured option.
Removal of the two screws and the associated locking screw has necessitated cutting through the two biggest muscles in the thigh to gain access and it is the healing of these two major incisions that seems to be taking the longest time and causing the most pain and discomfort. Both are healed on the outside but the muscles are still recovering from being cut so I’m in pretty much constant pain and not as mobile as I was before the last two operations were done. I’m staying positive, but sometimes it’s a little easier to say it than do it.
On the motorcycling front, I don’t have Speed channel so I only have the internet reports from last night’s WSBK at Aragon. Honours shared by the two Italians, Australia’s Broc Parkes threw away a certain win in the 600’s and Aussie Jed Metcher won the Superstock 600 race after earlier qualifying on pole. Well done, Jed.
Assen this week for the MotoGp contenders. No Dani (again) and one of Casey’s favourite tracks..mmm, could be interesting.
Finally, a dreadful joke, courtesy of one of my Facebook friends, What’s causing headlines? Answer, corduroy pillow cases. 🙂
