I had the great pleasure of attending the grand opening of Great Southern Motorcycles new premises in South Nowra today. This is the re-birth of the business after having its previous shop near Nowra Mall destroyed by fire a few years ago. The day was cool and crisp but sunny and it was great to be able to fly the flag and help support a local business.
As well, it was the official launch of former World Endurance Champion, Warwick Nowland’s eponymous Warwick Nowland Racing team. Warwick, despite still suffering the after-effects of his horrendous get-off at the BSFOS, elected to ride down from Sydney with some mates. He was on a brand spankers ZX10-R and arrived positively frozen. Unfortunately, he had chosen to ride down through the Highlands and hadn’t counted on the temperatures being around the 10 degree mark up on the heights. Racing leathers aren’t known for keeping you warm!!
All the same, he bravely bit the bullet but was quick to dive inside the dealership and put on some warmer clothes.
Also on hand was Warwick’s #1 rider, Glenn Scott and it was a pleasure to do some bench racing with the two of them and discuss the team’s progress so far. I love the way that Warwick is going about this business. Very thorough and very professional. They deserve all the success that will inevitably come their way.
In other news, Honda is expected to introduce its Moto3 (NSF250R) contender on Thursday 2nd June at Catalunya, followed by a live demo of the bike in the hands of former 500cc World Champion, Alex Criville on Friday and again on Sunday. Should be interesting though I, for one, will mourn the passing of the two stroke racing motorcycle.
Finally, here’s a shot of the WNR stand at GSM today.
MotoGp tomorrow night. Early signs are good with Honda leading a 1,2,3,4 in Fp3. Go, Casey!
