Belated, but sincere. I never get the chance to forget the day (not that I’d want to) because I was married on Mother’s Day weekend 38 years ago. So Thursday will be our wedding anniversary. Amazing that she’s put up with me for that long, eh? We had a lovely lunch yesterday under the pergola in the warm Autumn sunshine. My two children, my son-in-law and my three gorgeous grandsons. Life is good.
I don’t have Speed channel so I didn’t get to watch the Superbikes last night, but Biaggi apparently went even faster in Superpole than he had in qualifying, getting up to 324 km/h in the traps. Amazing. Running on at the chicane (did I mention the chicane in my preview?) cost him a ride-through, but the Yamahas, while not fastest in a straight line, were the fastest overall, Laverty doing a “double” and denying both Italians (Biaggi and Laverty’s team-mate, Melandri) a home town victory. Chris Vermeulen had an off in practice and hurt his elbow so he didn’t race, nor did James Toseland. Again the BMWs flattered to deceive. Something is very wrong at that team. Carlos Checa still leads the title chase after two disappointing races (9th and 10th) but Melandri is now in 2nd, just 17 points adrift with Biaggi one point further back.
In WSS, the Parkin Go Yamahas finished 1-2 with Australian Broc Parkes in 4th, but PnG’s Luca Scassa was disqualified afterwards for contravening the WSBK testing rules by riding an R1 at a race school at Misano a couple of weeks ago. He keeps his placing from last night but has been barred from competing in the next round at Misano in 2 weeks’ time.
Yesterday while the rellies were here, my son-in-law (best son-in-law in the world) dragged the Kawasaki engine and two boxes of assorted bits out of the shed so I can start sorting through. Some parts are obvious and some I wouldn’t have a clue what they are. I’ll just give Dave the engine and the boxes and he can sort it out, sounds like the best plan.
