It’s 9 weeks today since my accident. The insurance company has paid out on the bike and my replacement set of wheels (4 of them) is sitting in the driveway. I can’t drive it yet, obviously, but I can now sit in it and start the engine and rev it up a bit (pathetic, isn’t it?)
It seems odd, but my life is made up of very small and trivial things that others would not even notice, but to me they are small, and significant signs that recovery is taking place. Benchmarks, if you like, along the road to full mobility again.
I attended the Illawarra Riders Christmas party yesterday and some of the members there who haven’t seen me since the very early days in hospital were staggered at how much better I looked. That sure is an encouragement.
My online life continues to keep me sane during the long and boring days when my wife is at work and the kindness of friends who call by and visit, or even better, take me out to the Mall or for coffee (or both) is a great help in passing the days.
As far as this site is concerned, I am constantly amazed at how it has taken off. Numbers of unique visitors each day is now over 100 most days and I am very gratified that people see fit to spend some of their day reading and commenting on the content here. Thanks very much; that also is a great boost to my recovery and helps me to stay positive and motivated. There is a re-design in the pipeline, as I’ve said, so watch out for that soon.
On Facebook today I spent a long while chatting with John Stanley. John is a highly-respected motorsports and speedway photographer. If you’d like to see some examples of his work, here’s the url of his web site. Cool stuff.
As you can see, he’s pretty good!
