I’ve spent the last two days helping to supervise a Year 5/6 school camp at Bathurst. Not my choice, but it comes with the territory. We travelled by coach.. a 13.5 mt airconditioned touring bus, quite comfortable and we stayed at the Bathurst Goldfields Village, whose address is, wait for it, 428 Conrod Straight, Mount Panorama.
After a day and a half of simulated goldfields activities we set off for a lap of the mountain circuit…on the bus. I can tell you, I’ve done some “interesting” laps of Bathurst, but this one was right up there with the best. Watching the driver guide a 13.5 mt monster down the Esses was quite a sight.
We then looked in at the National Motor Racing Museum, which I enjoyed (of course) but was pretty much wasted on the children who didn’t really appreciate it at all, I think. The good news is that the Gregg Hansford exhibit is still in place and looks like being a permanent part of the displays and that there are many more bikes on display than when I visited last time, including the magnificent Corish Vincent that used to be ridden with flair by Eric Debenham.
Away from my wearysome activities, two more re-signings have further clarified the WSBK field for 2011. Leon Camier has signed with Aprilia for another year and Troy Corser has re-upped at BMW.
This weekend is the penultimate round of the WSBK Championship. Imola is the venue and I will try and bring you a complete preview tomorrow or later today.

Done that trip quite a few times now, Phil!! I actually ‘pilotted’ a coach around there too one day. I was driving a group of visiting kids from NZ and the other bus had kids from BMGS. We lined up on the start line and had a mock drag to turn 1. I think the kids thought we were going to race all the way round. I’m sure that would have been fun.
