No, not THAT one. If I’d missed that one, I wouldn’t be sitting here typing now (just kidding, dear). No, I missed the 10th March which was the 7th anniversary of the death of cockney hero, the unique and wonderful Barry Sheene.
Darryl Flack at Motorsport Retro did remember and has penned this excellent tribute to a man who became Australia’s most beloved adopted son. What Darryl didn’t mention was that, along with the names of the riders that Barry assisted over the years, the one for whose career he did the most was Chris Vermeulen (hence Chris’s use of the European #7 on his bike for the years that he was at Suzuki MotoGp). Sadly I never saw Barry race, but I laughed myself silly at his on-air commentary and the running gag series of ads with Dick Johnson.
“A sock? What do you want a sock for?”
RIP, Bazza.

Wow seven years already,Barry was great on track & off.Always spoke his mind & took no nonsense from fools.
Liked his commentary style too with the Gp’s on TEN with Bill Woods.
Wonder what he would have thought about all the technical advances they have these days like traction control & all the electronics?
Very much missed is our Bazza.

Barry was a 70’s man, through and through, but he also knew how to move with the times. I agree that he wouldn’t take crap from anyone and I think he’d be pretty unamused by the state of MotoGp today. “I mean, leave it out, what do these geezers think they’re doing anyway?” (in best cockney accent).
