I remember devouring motorcycle magazines when I first got involved. Of course they were cheaper then, but we didn’t have the internet then either.
Nowadays, I don’t buy magazines for news, because, by the time they’re printed and into the shops, the news is already old on the internet. Even the faithful AMCN is struggling to keep pace, focussing more on feature articles and road tests these days.
So, is it worth buying magazines any more, and, if so, what do you buy and why?
Well, I really only buy one magazine now, and that is BIKE magazine from England. It is, I believe, the most complete magazine and always has a mountain of reading in it. It is also the only magazine that I religiously KEEP.
I frequently buy Road Rider magazine, mainly because of its distinctly touring bias and I enjoy the articles and the laid-back style of writing.
Lastly, I have been given a subscription to Old Bike Australia, Jim Scaysbrook’s excellent bi-monthly look at motorcycling through the rose-coloured glasses. Since so much of it concerns the early 70’s, the time when I first became involved in motorcycling, I find it compulsive reading. I would certainly buy it religiously as well if it weren’t for my subscription.
Feedback on this subject is welcome.
