Yesterday the postman brought me this wonderful little package. In a zip-lock bag and further protected by a padded postpack, it’s the Sena 10R intercom that my Netrider friend had promised to me earlier on in the month. To explain: He lives in Melbourne and that’s where it was but, at, the time of our first contact, he was house-sitting a friend’s home in Canberra and couldn’t get back to Melbourne until the end of April, thus the delay.
Amazingly, the device came with just about everything that I will need and more. The package includes the Sena itself, the instruction manual, several sets of velcro tabs and double-sided tape, a second set of speakers so that I can swap the unit between helmets should I wish to do so, 2 boom-type microphones in case I wanted to use it on a modular helmet (I do, my new HJC is a flip-front), as well as a standard, “button-type” microphone for use with a “normal” helmet. And, I remind you, this all was free and Trefor paid the postage. Sometimes you can just get lucky, eh?
It all looks fiendishly complicated but, since my brother has already installed one on his helmet, I have a ready source of expertise that will make the job much easier.
Not that I will be riding for a while. I still have another week to get around on crutches before I can walk unaided and I anticipate that I won’t be able to get the leg over the bike for a little while after that. Still, as was remarked yesterday, it’s not really riding weather at the moment and we’re coming in to Winter so it’s not as much of a problem as you’d think.
French Grand Prix this weekend, another year for the long-suffering French fans to hope that one of their countrymen will stand on the top step. It certainly won’t be this year, however, with both Quarterpounder and Zorro riding the worst-performing bikes in the paddock. Sad.
And, speaking of MotoGp, the technical regulations for 2027 and onwards have been announced. Pretty underwhelming, in my opinion. Reduced aero (they should get rid of it altogether), ban on ride height devices and launch control (should keep these as they DO contribute towards road bike development), reduction in engine capacity from 1000cc to 850cc (look at the history books and see how THAT worked out last time they did it) and only 100% renewable fuel to be used (who cares, the DORNA executives use more fuel in their corporate jets every race weekend than the whole of the paddock use in a full year – go woke, go broke).
So, some projects to keep me busy while I heal. The doctor is very happy with progress and I see no reason why the specialist won’t be when I see him at the end of the month. No speedway this weekend, though, it’s pouring rain here on the east coast and clay tracks don’t like being wet.
Catch you next rime.
