As they say in the classics, Picture For Attention.
It’s been a chaotic week at our place this week. Was looking forward to something easier after the car dramas last week but it wasn’t to be.
Monday morning we get a phone call from our son who lives in Sydney, “Um, mum, there’s nothing really wrong but I just got cleaned up by a 4WD.” Heaven knows what the situation would be if there WAS something wrong. Seems like Graeme was riding his pushie in the bike lane near his place when a duffus in a Land Cruiser pulled out for a parking spot and did a U turn right in front of him. An ambulance took him to hospital where they x-rayed him and told him he had a broken shoulder and humerus. For outrageous reasons that escape me completely, they then sent him HOME in a taxi and told him he needed to come back to the hospital and have it operated on on Tuesday.
So, on Tuesday we drove up and took him to RPA in Camperdown. It was a harrowing drive as every bump, every turn and every jolt caused him terrible pain but we got there, got him booked in and we returned home.
After 4 and a half hours of surgery the hospital contacted us and told us that the surgery had gone well and he was in recovery. For the next couple of days he continued to improve and respond to rehabilitation and we were assured that he’d be home early this week. All was looking good. Imagine our surprise, then, when he called us on Thursday and told us that the staff were so pleased with his progress that they’d sent him home!
On Friday it was another trip to Sydney but this time for a much more pleasant reason. Our daughter has been a ventriloquist since she was 11 and, after quite a few years of not performing (life gets in the way) she relaunched her career on Friday night at a little venue in Narellan. Sure, she was a bit rusty, hardly surprising, but the old spark was there and, after a few more outings, she will be back to her best, which is brilliant (and that’s not just me who says that).
Saturday morning we headed back up to Graeme’s with a few bags of provisions and it was great to see that his recovery is going well. He’ll be wearing the sling for 6 weeks and also a cast on his hand because x-rays after the operation revealed that he also has a broken finger on his right hand. It’s going to be tough but I reckon he’ll do it, he’s a tough kid.
The CBX is due for rego at the end of this week so it was time to get it to the shop and get Gary to sort out why the rear indicator wasn’t working. A couple of hours and he had that sorted plus several other electrical gremlins that I DIDN’T know about so it’s ready to go for inspection. $46 for rego AND Green Slip, isn’t Historic Registration amazing?
Anyway, that will do for now. Assen is on tonight, hope it’s good.
