I have refrained from any further comment on the infamous Rossi move at Sepang since (which is something that the Rossi apologists have conveniently ignored) nothing could or can be added to the situation than what was immediately apparent at the time. I have watched desperate fans even produce obviously faked video footage that “proved” that Rossi was blameless and that the whole thing was Marquez’s fault. Of course all of this is nonsense. Do the police interview people who weren’t even at the scene of an accident, a week after the accident, to get their opinions on what happened? Of course they don’t.
Yet we are supposed to believe that these people, blinded by their loyalty, can add anything of value to what it took Race Direction 45 minutes to examine and make a determination AT THE TIME. It is so ludicrous that it boggles the mind. Rossi has, of course, appealed, but I think it will be a fruitless exercise. Race Direction, having made a decision, is unlikely to change it lest they open the floodgates to dozens of other egregious and vexatious appeals.
So, we move on. The FIM President, Caramello Koala (:) ) has cancelled today’s press conference, opting instead for a call to the headmaster’s office for all team principals, presumably to read the riot act and warn them all that a repeat performance of Sepang will see the proverbial ton of bricks being dropped on those who are deemed guilty. I’d love to be a fly on the wall at THIS meeting.
I haven’t had the chance to ride much in the last week or so. A trip to the Pie Shop followed by a run down the much improved Jamberoo Mountain, out to Kiama and then back home via Jamertoo. One of my favourite rides.
However, while we were away down the coast in the Minibago on the weekend, news emerged of the NSW police acting very improperly on Macquarie Pass on the weekend. The trick is that an officer bimbles along in an unmarked Holden ute, doing about 40km/h up the mountain. When a bike approaches, he will pull over and motion the bike to pass. When the rider passes, he makes sure that he forces the rider over the double unbroken line and a colleague, waiting at the top of the mountain, pulls the rider over, breathalyses them and books them for overtaking over a double unbroken line. Protestations of innocence results in a thorough inspection of the bike and the issuing of numerous defect notices.
Such outrageous behaviour is unforgiveable but I am certain that they will have checked with their smart team of lawyers to ensure that their immoral and unethical behaviour cannot be challenged in the courts.
The lesson is clear. If the line is unbroken, don’t cross it regardless of the encouragement to do so.
