After an interrupted sleep last night, I woke up (AGAIN) and started our first full day in the Yew Ess of Aye. On the menu was settling in, unpacking and a little bit of necessary shopping. I needed a power board and some converter plugs so I could charge my multitude of devices (at last count, 1x laptop, 1x tablet, 1x camera, 1x phone, 1x TENS device and then Helena’s phone, iPad and camera). Got a board and three converters for $21, things are so cheap here.
I then went (was driven) to a phone shop so we could get local SIM cards for our phones which the nice young man at AT&T fixed up for us and then some browsing of a couple of HUUUUGE electrical shops.
The roads are crowded with Japanese cars. It appears that the American attempt at stopping the invasion of the “furriners” has been unsuccessful. There are plenty of big pickup trucks and people movers but they are the exception. Apart from the fact that there are thousands of “imports”, some of them have different names, they have the steering wheel on the wrong side and drive on the wrong side of the road, the Japanese have conquered America albeit some 70 years later.
The Ford Mondeo which was such a sales failure in Australia, is very popular here. I haven’t seen many bikes yet, but most that I have seen are Harleys. Hopefully when I get about some more I’ll see more.
In the mean time, we are having so much fun with the family and exploring.

Oh, and this drink, a mixture of iced tea, and lemonade (non fizzy type) is called the “Arnold Palmer”. Who’d have thought that a crusty old golfer could taste that good.
