As a matter of incidental interest, I noted that quite a few of the WSBK riders at Phillip Island were sporting beards. Round winner, Sylvain Guintoli, pictured here, was one of them. Like most realisations such as this, it came to me slowly and then I suddenly thought, “Hey, what’s with all the beards?”
Later, in the Press Room I voiced my discovery and was told that, “Tom Sykes raced all last year with a beard and won the championship, so everybody is copying him.” I’m not sure if that makes the likeable Yorkshireman a style icon or what, but, anyway, there it is.
For what it’s worth, if you want to go faster, grow a beard (female readers of this blog are exempted from this advice!)
