It’s been a bit rushed this weekend. Helena has four cousins arriving from Finland to visit for a fortnight at (God help me) 0600 on Monday morning, so it’s been all hands to the grinders getting the place spick and span before then. All done now apart from a few little bits and pieces, time to kick back and relax.
I’m happy to say that I have ZERO interest in the two major football finals that happen this weekend so I won’t be veging in front to the telly, either.
A big congratulations to my good friend Taina who did her first track day at MDTC yesterday. She was planning on riding the ZX6 but an electrical glitch halted that and so Rhonda the Honda was called in to fill the space. Always trust reliable Hondas!
This weekend sees the MotoGp at Aragon (it’s part of the Spanish World Championship). Yesterday was pretty much a wash-out with most teams choosing to sit out the session and save their precious allocation of wet tyres in case it does turn icky on race day.
Marco Melandri’s DNF and DNS last weekend has pretty much ensured that the Roman Emperor, Max Biaggi, will win his second WSBK world championship in 3 years. And, speaking of WSBK, the Flammini brothers have announced that the 1199 Panigale will not have to carry extra weight when it debuts as Ducati’s WSBK weapon in 2013. Now why am I not surprised about that?
Here’s a giggle. Remember I told you about a teacher who I met a few months ago who I actually taught as a student in Year 6, 1976? Well, here’s the proof.
Scary, huh?
Further cycling (non engine-powered) news. Thanks to a good mate from the Illawarra Riders forum (www.illawarrariders.com) a handy piece of free software that you can download to your smartphone that enables you to track where you ride on your push bike. Gives you all sorts of info, distance travelled, time taken, elevation changes and a whole heap more. Thanks to it I’m able to tell you that yesterday morning I rode the 12.6km Koonawarra/Kanahooka loop in 55.04 minutes. Chuffed. I wonder if it would work when I’m riding the REAL bike??? www.strava.com
Summer is coming (yesterday it was 29 degrees in Wollongong), so time to look for a summer jacket and gloves. Sadly, I just missed the cut with the closure of Bike Gear Warehouse, the importers of the excellent Joe Rocket range of products. Their Phoenix 5.0 summer jacket was a beauty, but it appears that they are no longer available here. Of course you can still get them O/S but the freight component is a killer. Might do some more checking and see if anyone still has some in stock.
Finally, the best of luck to my good friends, Steve Kairl and Nigel Taylor who head off this week to new Zealand to race in the Trans-Tasman Challenge. Should be a blast.
