Living on the internet exposes you to all sorts of stuff, some of which is interesting, some of which is fun and some of which is plain bizarre. But the one thing that is certain is that there is more variety than you could possibly want. Like this, for example.
I found this completely hilarious, of course, but some sober-sides had to try and completely destroy the humour by inserting some ridiculous story about Japanese tourists following their GPS and driving their car into the ocean…I mean, how stupid does he think we are???
I also turned up this article from crash.net which is an interesting perspective on Casey Stoner’s career.
Of course, the interesting statistic here is how quickly Stoner has been able to catapult himself into such exalted company. This year is only Casey’s 7th season in the Premier Class. He has competed in just 107 races so far and has won more than on third of them, an amazing stat. By comparison, for example, Mick Doohan with 54 wins, achieved that result from just 117 starts, an even more amazing stat. Mike Hailwood, who Casey should pass before the season is over, achieved his 37 victories (which included 7 wins at the TT when it was part of the World Championship) in similar quick time, indicating that, despite the passage of time, each era has had riders who have dominated. The other interesting fact that emerges from this study is that Casey has already surpassed all the American riders of the last few decades who many of grew up with and admired. Schwantz, Roberts, Rainey and Lawson are already behind Casey in terms of premier class wins, amazing, eh?
Here’s something else interesting, a concept that i have been advocating for a long time; a “budget” road racing class based on a single cylinder motocross engine. This class has run for several years in the UK and has been very successful. The essentially important factor here is that the bike can be re-converted back to MX specs should the owner desire.
School holidays always provide the opportunity for projects and mine has been the removal of some geranium bushes that have gradually taken over several sections of our garden. I must confess that more than once I felt a lot like The Goodies portrayal of David Bellamy in the “Animals” episode. I certainly left the back and side gardens looking much like the defoliated landscape that I remember so well from that episode!
Friday tomorrow and it’s raining, bummer.
This weekend is the German GP at the Sachsenring, the slowest track on the calendar and the best chance that Rossi will, have of a decent showing…
