I hope you all had a relaxing Easter break. I did substantially nothing on the weekend, and it was very enjoyable. On Saturday we had a combined birthday party for my wife and my daughter in anticipation of their real birthdays this week (10th & 11th) and it was great to laze around under the pergola and enjoy the company. Then Saturday afternoon late I headed down to Nowra for my regular commentating gig at the speedway there. It was a really good meeting too with good racing in nearly all the divisions.
It’s always a late night at the speedway. By the time the racing is over and I’ve presided over the trophy presentations, I’m rarely home by midnight. That mightn’t seem much to you younger folk, but those of us who are getting on a bit (I’m young at heart – other parts are considerably older) generally find they should obey my late father’s dictum that you should always go to bed on the same day you get up.
So it was a very laid-back Sunday. I made us some pancakes for breakfast, something that I love doing, and then we just lazed around. With Summer having been so wet and unpleasant, Autumn is providing the weather that we should have had then.
I didn’t stay up this morning and watch the MotoGp meeting from Qatar (see my above comment) and, though I have seen the results, I’ll refrain from commenting as I know some of you record and watch later.
Josh Brookes is on pole for the opening round of the BSB at the shortened Brands Hatch layout (like running a marathon around your clothesline)
St George MCC conducted a very successful two-day event at Eastern Creek over the weekend, attracting a huge entry, apparently. Follow the link below to the excellent Natsoft web site where all the results are available.
Guy Martin, he of Isle of Man TT fame as well as reality TV star! posted a picture from the MAG motorcycle show on the weekend in Reading. A very nicely resto’ed Z650 with some modern mods but retaining the overall feel of the original bike. Not sure how “legal” that pipe would be but I bet it sounds great. I’m not quite sure about fitting a Gixxer swingarm but not doing anything to brace the front forks as well, though.
A very nice Kevin Dean photo, too.
One more day of the holiday weekend to go, get out there and enjoy it.
Oh, and congratulations to two young Aussie riders for their great results over the weekend. Alex Cudlin won both Superbike races in the Qatar Superbike Championship despite competing with a dislocated elbow. Cudlin missed the first two rounds and a potential 100 points in the championship, but his efforts on the weekend see him only 7 points behind the championship leader.
And South Australia’s Levi Day (tuck that name away for future reference) won the 50th Anniversary Easter Cup race at Mcnamara Park in Mount Gambier on the weekend. This kid is going to go a long way.
