In winning the Japanese Grand Prix at Motegi last weekend, Casey Stoner not only recorded his 2nd win of the season but his 22nd win in MotoGP for his career so far. This puts him onto the all-time winners list equal with three of the greats of motorcycle racing, Geoff Duke, John Surtees and “King” Kenny Roberts. Add his 7 wins in the 125cc class and Casey has 29 wins altogether.
Here’s the list of the top riders.
78 Valentino Rossi
68 Giacomo Agostini
54 Mick Doohan
37 Mike Hailwood
31 Eddie Lawson
25 Kevin Schwantz
24 Wayne Rainey
22 Casey Stoner
22 Geoff Duke
22 Kenny Roberts
Given that Casey is still competing and the only rider on the list ahead of his that is also still racing is Rossi, Casey’s chances of improving those stats is high.
It’s also worth noting that Stoner’s wins have come rapidly and that he has a high completion rate. He has started in only 79 MotoGP races and has won 22 of them, making a percentage of 27% wins:starts ratio.
