No, not THAT kind of action, racing action.
At Imola, the rain somewhat spoiled the parade, as it often does there. And a major upset with Kawasaki’s Tom Sykes putting the unlovely and unloved ZX10-R on pole. This is the first pole for a Kawasaki since 2007 and a fitting send-off for the model which only has this race meeting and Magny Cours to go. Best of the contenders is Haslam, a noted rain runner, in 3rd, but Biaggi is back in 7th and very unhappy about the prospect of riding in the rain tonight. TC is 6th.
In WSS, Kenan Sofoglu continues his psychological domination of Eugene Laverty, finishing qualifying almost a second, yes, a SECOND, faster than him on the time sheets. Broc Parkes is 6th and Mark Aitchison 8th.
In BSB, Josh Brookes is on pole at Silverstone, benefitting, no doubt, from already having raced there twice this year. This is good for Josh’s championship aspirations. Pointscore leader, Tommy Hill was a fairly modest sixth, eight tenths down on Brookes, while Michael Laverty – now Hill’s closest challenger in the standings – will also start ahead of him in third.
And in Singapore,. for those who follow those funny-shaped things with 4 wheels, Mark Webber will start from 5th.
PS: In overnight news at Imola, rumours that Leon Haslam has signed for BMW for 2011.
PPS: In further overnight news, this just in. Karl Muggeridge wins the German Superbike Championship. Read all about it on the official Alpinestars web site. That means that Aussie riders have won both the Superbike AND the Supersport championships in Germany this year. Woot!
