I finish up a 4 week block on a senior primary class today, yay! It has included an overnighter to Bathurst as previously reported plus all the other chores and responsibilities that go with the job. I can say that it’s been good for the bottom line, but not so good for the peace of mind. Pre-teen students are totally self-absorbed and believe (as their parents have probably taught them to) that it’s all about them, all the time.
Anyway, to more pleasant subjects. Today I start a two week break before launching back into casual work again next term. I’m going to say that I well and truly deserve it and I’m really looking forward to it as we are going to go do some exploring in the southern states. It was March 1959 when I last saw Adelaide so I’m looking forward to see what changes the past 50 years have brought and I’m also looking forward to showing my wife some of the wonderful places that I’ve had the pleasure of visiting on the bike that she has not yet seen (Hall’s Gap, etc)
I have a little computer which I am hoping that I’ll be able to use to update the site as we travel; failing that, it’s the old faithful internet cafe.
The MotoGP paddock is awash with the rumour that Valentino Rossi and Alessio Salucci are planning on setting up a team for the Moto2 championship next year and that Andrea Iannone is being targetted as their rider. A good choice, in my opinion. Elsewhere, the re-signing of Colin Edwards for another year at TechIII is being interpreted by many as a sure sign that the “feeder” classes are not really doing their job well. All of last year’s “graduates” from the lower classes are struggling in the big game and, despite occasional flashes of brilliance, are not troubling the scorer at all.
Interestingly, someone noted the other day that not one single WSBK graduate has won the world title in MotoGP, a very interesting stat. Cal Crutchlow is reported as saying that he is looking forward to 2012 when the 1000cc bikes come in, a very strange comment. I’d have thought he’d be better off concentrating on 2011. Certainly his less than sparkling form in his maiden WSBK season doesn’t fill me with any confidence at all that he has the goods to succeed at the premier level. And I doubt that he will do any better once the 1000cc bikes come in.
