The 2011 MotoGP calendar, which is normally announced directly after the mid-season break (in other words, after Brno), has not yet been published. It is believed that the organisers are massaging a few track promoters so that they can re-schedule the 2 US Grands Prix to take place on successive weekends rather than be interrupted by a European round as they have been for a number of years.
Rumours still abound that the Indianapolis round (US Grand prix East) is still under a cloud and may not be held at all due to abusymal crowd figures over the last few years. Seems that, if it doesn’t have a roof and is covered with loud stickers, the mid-western racegoers don’t want to see it.
And, in another “scoop” that I predicted weeks ago, FIAT Yamaha is going to be without the FIAT in 2011. Rumour has it that their place at Yamaha will be taken by a returning Telefonica/Movistar. So, where does that leave FIAT? At Ducati, as I predicted, to make up the Italian “dream team” and provide yet another means whereby Valentino Rossi can live out his F1 testing dream (FIAT owns Ferrari)
Oh, and on the Indy GP, racegoers there will get an advance taste of what Moto3 will probably be like with the running, during the MotoGP weekend, of the race for 250cc single cylinder-engined bikes featuring 12-16 year old riders. The class, which has been running in the States for a few years now, features 250cc Honda engines in a custom Moriwaki frame. Should be interesting.
