This weekend’s motorsports activities will see many heading to work bleary-eyed well into next week. For a start there is the Formula 1 Grand Prix from Istanbul, Turkey, on Sunday night. Can Mark Webber make it three in a row? Direct broadcast on OneHD at 2230.
Then there is the self-proclaimed “Greatest Race in the World”, the Indianapolis 500. The Memorial Day classic will have all the hoopla we’ve come to expect but this year’s event will really be just a warm-up for the centenary of the race in 2011. Telecast on ESPN (Channel 508) from 0200 Monday morning. ESPN. If that’s a bit of a struggle, there will be a delayed re-broadcast of the race on ESPN at 1600 on Monday. 2 Aussies and a Kiwi to cheer for at Indy, though. Will Power, Ryan Briscoe and Scott Dixon. They will be starting out of 2, 4 and 6 respectively. This has to be the best chance ever for an Aussie win.
Finally, at the boringly-named Miller Motorsport Park (a boring name for a boring race track), Round 7 of the WSBK. Amazingly, because of the Memorial Day holiday in the USA, the races will actually be taking place on a MONDAY!! Max Biaggi, when asked about this, said, “I can’t ever remember racing on a Monday!” Direct telecast on FoxSports 2 (Channel 502) at 0330 Tuesday morning. Re-broadcast, Tuesday evening at 1800, again on FoxSports 2 (Channel 502).
Anyway, enjoy your weekend fix. Check back here sometime towards the middle of next week for some postscripts.
