I normally like to “stagger” my tyre purchases to save some money, but last time, as you no doubt recall, I wasn’t able to do so and ended up buying a new front and a new rear within the space of a week. I bought Michelin Pilot Powers on the recommendation of my mechanic and I have to say that I think it was a good choice.
Well, last week I replaced the rear with 12500kms on the carcasse; pretty acceptable wear for a sports tyre, I thought. But the problem has become now that my front tyre, with about 13000kms on it is now due for replacement as well.
Now this is the reverse of what I usually experience. Usually I get around 11k on the rear and 16k on the front. The fact that I have acheived a little more on the back and significantly less on the front means that I am now faced with having to replace two tyres at virtually the same time. Damn.
Oh, and I also need a new chain. I’m not worried so much about that as it has achieved well over 40k since new and I regard that as well and truly acceptable. I’m watching another DID Gold chain on fleabay at the moment and will be buying that and fitting it before I head out for a tour in the middle of January.
