Well, I did it. This morning I had the perfect, traffic-free run up Macquarie Pass.
After finishing all my chores, I headed west insearch of TFRPS. However, at the roundabout at Yallah there was an RTA sign saying that Mac Pass was closed due to a truck accident. Bummer. However, being a glutton for punishment and knowing that these signs can sometimes be out of date almost as soon as they are erected, I pushed on, through Albion Park till I came to the Tullimbah roundabout, which was blocked by witches hats and an RTA truck. Oh well, looks like a “U” turn and back up Jamberoo Mountain instead. But there was an RTA worker manning the checkpoint so I stopped and checked just in case. . “Where are you going, mate?” he asked.
“Oh, just to the Pie Shop,” I replied. “Well, you should be OK, mate. The accident happened just after the Tourist Road intersection so you could slip up the Tourist Road and drop into Robbo from the North.”
So, he moved one of the witches hats and let me through. I couldn’t believe my luck. By that reckoning, the Pass should be completely free of traffic in either direction. And so it was. What a brilliant run. No traffic comeing down to worry about and none going up (except me). At the bottom of the Pass the road was again blocked by witches hats but I just cruised on by.
By the time I got to Robbo I was feeling pretty chuffed so I converted a Pie Shop run into a Lap. Out to the highway at Bomadery, north to Berry and then west across the very technical and challenging Bellawongarah Road and back into Kangaroo Valley, up Barrengary, then late lunch at the Pie Shop.
I’ve got the next 3 days at school so what a great way to spend your day off!
