Yeah, I know it’s not Summer yet (officially) but the weather certainly seems to be feeling like it. And tonight I rediscovered the joys of riding in the evening in Summer.
Now normally I wouldn’t set out for a ride to the Pie Shop any time after 1500, as, no matter how warm it is down on the flat, it’s always likely to be a LOT cooler by the time you’ve scaled the mountain. But today was not just warm, it was hot and, when BSILW suggested a quick blat up the Pass, I was more than happy to comply. Even though it was 1700 when we set out, the evening air was pleasant and the coolness at the top was similarly enjoyable.
Throw in a meeting with some old riding buddies and a good bench racing session and it couldn’t really get any better. Unless you go home via Jamberoo and do the run to Kiama and back through the twisties before you head home, that is. Somehow the bike always seems to run better in the evening air and it all just seems to come together.
Of course there are the ever-present bugs, but I’m prepared to pay that price. I look forward to many more pleasant evening runs as the weather warms up.
Oh, and just to add some more spice to the near-perfect scenario, THIS was sitting in the car park when we got there.
$34k and worth every penny. Complete with an Austin Racing exhaust pipe that sounded awesome when standing still and doubly so when the owner obliged with a high-speed pass of the Pie Shop before heading back down the mountain. I am seriously in love, although it’s nonsense as I couldn’t afford one and I couldn’t abide the “committing an unnatural act with a monkey” riding position. A totally lustworthy machine.
Anyone want to buy a kidney??
