It’s been a great Christmas. So much so that I have neglected my duties here and elsewhere. However, I’m back and I will hopefully get back to regular posting.
Christmas, as I said, was great. These days it’s far more about family and friends and the old fixations about presents seems to have pretty much disappeared. Having said that, I was tickled when my wife, quite out of the blue, bought me an action camera to use on the bike. She did her research very thoroughly and I am now the proud owner of a Kaiser Baas X90 camera about which I presently know nothing 🙂 So, a lot of research and reading of instruction manuals is due. However, I am excited about using it when I’m riding and I am certain that the resultant footage will confirm what you all already know and that is that I’m a very ordinary rider! My brother says that he belongs to the MRA, the Mediocre Riders Association. So do I !
So, yesterday was New Year’s Day and a happy new year to you all. We decided that, since the vast bulk of the population would still be sleeping off the excesses of NYE, what better day could we pick to do a ride? Paul was especially keen to get some miles under the tyres of his new (old) bike and he took no persuasion at all.
It was a plain and simple Putty ride with the added incentive of meeting the guys at Grey Gum Cafe and wishing them a happy 6th birthday (which we did, and in song, nonetheless) Actually we wished them a happy anniversary which isn’t quite the same thing, but it is Paul’s fault. Fans of The Flintstones will recognise instantly our choice of song.
Needless to say, the roads were deserted and we had a great day on the road. I was very disappointed to see how few motorcyclists turned up to help celebrate (perhaps they had celebrated too much the night before?) but it didn’t stop us.
On the way home we saw John Keogh taking photos on the other side of the road and he copped both Paul and I as we rode by. These photos are just the “proofs” as we are buying the full, hi-res versions.
So, a very enjoyable day and on nearly deserted roads, as I said. Sadly, news just in that a truck plowed into a group of three motorcyclists at Howes Valley today. One rider was killed and the other two are in hospital in serious condition. You just can’t assume. My best wishes for a full recovery and my condolences to the friends and family of the deceased rider.
That’s it for today, roll on 2017.
