We’re steadily working our way through the to-do list so yesterday we hired a little car and headed further north to Port Douglas. The sight to the blue/green of the Coral Sea was wonderful as we rounded a corner and saw little beaches stretching out as far as the eye could see. Traffic was OK and the 29kms of road north of Palm Cove was absolutely amazing, corner after corner for what seemed like forever. Pity we were in a Getz, I bet it would be wonderful on a bike. But, the down side is that it’s a hell of a long ride to get there!
Port Douglas is small, over-commercialised and was, the day we were there, crowded with sightseers from a cruise ship that had docked there that morning (the same one visible in my gondola shot from the other day) and local hippies with their dreadlocks and hemp shirts. Despite this, it is a lovely town and the views from the lookout are wonderful (see above).
Home late in the afternoon, we paused at one of the aforementioned beaches for a quick swim (quick because it was damn hot) and no photos (in case anyone reading this happens to be eating at the same time).
Right next door to our motel is a pub that has an excellent bistro so we have been eating there a bit. Dunwoody’s is the name of you happen to be up this way.
Last night we took a stroll downtown and watched the lights. I need to do some reading up of my camera’s manual because my photos were dreadful.
Today we explored the shopping centre in more detail. The main mall is just like any shopping mall you’d find in any town; in fact the design is exactly like that of Pacific Fair at Surfers Paradise, but the local shops are interesting indeed.
So tomorrow we are having a rest day then Saturday morning, before we get booted out of here, we’re going to go out to Redlynch and see the water park there. The fun just never stops.
Motorcycling? 99% of the riders are squids; lots of scooters and some interesting bikes. A Wayne Rainey replica FZR250, lots of Harleys and other cruisers and a few sports bikes but not many.
Only seen two riders properly dressed, a Harley VRod rider and a BMW K1200S rider.
That better do, catch you tomorrow.
