If you’ve hung around any model-specific forums on the internet you will know that there are a lot of questions that get asked over and over again. #1 is “What sort of tyres are best for my bike?” I usually reply, “Round, black, rubber ones.” #2 is “What sort of oil should I used when I do an oil change?” Unsurprisingly, my reply is usually, “Black slippery stuff.” The list is long and arduous and usually evokes replies from the helpful to the ridiculous. Just for reference, I have been using Motul 5100 in my VFRs for years and have always had good results.
And, speaking of VFRs, the most-asked question always relates to problems with the notorious Honda R/R and its propensity to fail at the least-needed moment. Thankfully, most forums have very comprehensive FAQ files and one of them on most VFR sites deals with the who, what, where, when and how of dealing with these troublesome little buggers.
Another of the most-asked questions on VFR forums relates to the dreaded “condom” mirrors that were thankfully replaced with the arrival of the 2000 model Gen 5 800. I’ve dealt with this matter in detail before so I’m not going to again but I thought that an article from 2008 might help to illustrate how annoying these items are and how much trouble they can cause.
I hope you enjoy.
