Helena had her monthly quilting class this morning and the weather was great, cool, of course, but ideal riding conditions. It was Bexie’s turn today so I headed out early. The plan was to go up Mt Keira and across to the highway then Bald Hill, the Royal National Park and then home.
That plan hit a snag when I found that the Mt Keira road was still closed for roadworks. So it was a boring run up Mt Ousley, taking a small detour to the Sublime Point lookout.
I then bopped up Maddens Plains and turned on the old Highway to Helensburgh then across to the coast. Even though it was still early, the car park at Bald Hill was full, it was hard to find a space for the bike, there were no CAR places available at all. It was quite breezy so the hang gliders were in full flight, delighting the tourists.
I was really looking forward to the Park and I had a terrific run till Audley where I encountered a bus and a skip bin truck and half a dozen cars all queued up behind them. But the lack of traffic was the only good thing about the run, sad to say. The road is in appalling condition and there appears to have been no effort at all to repair the dozens of potholes and wash-aways that mar what is usually a great surface. I have always suspected that National Parks would be delighted if nobody went in to the Park at all so only the wildlfie got to enjoy it.
After having negotiated the minefield, I came back out onto the highway at Loftus and headed south. I always take the old road after Waterfall and, as always, it was traffic-free. At Sublime Point I ducked out of the speedway that is the highway and dropped down Bulli Pass, into town to snap a quick shot at Wollongong Harbour and then home.
Must have been my morning for capturing flying objects.
I tried out Relive again and got a much better result, like most software, it works better when you get good at driving it. Here’s the link.
