The other day, InfoMoto published an interview that they did with Superbike hero, Robbie Phillis, and his long-time friend and sponsor, Mick Hone. With their permission I am republishing it here so that those who haven’t met Robbie before can discern for themselves why he is the most beloved character in Australian road racing. And, even if you DO know Robbie, the interview will still delight you. Be warned, you’ll need to set aside some time because both Robbie and, to a lesser extent, Mick, do go on a bit. 🙂
Please note that Robbie talks about the Macarthur Park finale and how much prize money he earned at that meeting. All of the CRRC meetings were fully funded by sponsorship from local businesses and without the benefit of a major sponsor. It showed the skeptics and those who said that it couldn’t be done that it COULD be done and got a lot of promoters off their lazy backsides and made them do some work for their money.
I know you’ll enjoy the interview. If ever the phrase, “What you see is what you get,” applied to anyone, it applies to Robbie as anyone who has met him will tell you.
A shout out to the thousands of motorcyclists and motorcycle-related businesses who have been severely impacted by the floods. Give them as mush support as you can, they deserve it.
Oh, and while I am on the subject, special mention to my good mate, Darren Goulder, who has defied the odds and taken his coffee trailer to the far north coast to provide free coffee to the SES workers and to the evacuees. This guy needs to be marked up as a potential Australian of the Year.
