In light of the recent bushfires that have blighted our summer and the fire that now threatens the southern part of Canberra, I thought it appropriate for me to re-post my own recollections of the horrific day in 2003 when a firestorm engulfed the suburbs of Canberra. I’m not going to make any changes to what I wrote many years ago but I am adding a truly awesome (and I mean this in the correct use of the term) video that was taken during that dreadful day. Just a year after this disaster, we left Canberra and came to live on the south coast. The memories of that day were a significant part of our reason for doing so.
The video is long and pretty scary but, if you want to know what it was like that day, it will show you.
