It was our regular Brekkie Ride this morning (last weekend of each month). The venue was originally planned to be Angels cafe at Huskisson but some clever person pointed out that today was the annual Huskisson Triathlon and, as the town was likely to be crammed to the gills with MAMILs, so we changed the venue.
Instead of the ocean we chose the mountains. Up the Pass, down Kangaroo Valley and up to the Cambewarra Lookout cafe via some very challenging backroads. It was cool up on the tops, around 13 degrees Celsius and the cafe was shrouded in mist when we first arrived but that cleared to a beautiful morning as we enjoyed breakfast mixed in with a good dose of bench racing. It was great to have Grant and his lovely wife, Kim joining us on Grant’s dad’s FJ1200, what a fine bike they are.
Grant and Kim split after brekkie to head down the mountain and home via the coast road. The rest of us went back to the Valley and then to the Pie Shop for a quick “dekko” Paul headed down the Pass after picking up a couple of pies for lunch while Wayne and I headed down Jamberoo Mountain instead. Jamberoo Pass is not to be messed with with some VERY tight corners as well as a few VERY off-camber right handers and we arrived at the 2nd corner after Barren Grounds to find the remains of a cruiser bike that had gone straight ahead instead of turning right and emergency crews looking after the rider who had been thrown off the bike and over the armco into the bush. I haven’t heard how he is but he didn’t look real good.
As we descended the mountain the temperature rose and, by the time I got home it was up into the mid-20’s again. Not a long ride, only 160kms, but a lot of fun and a great way to blow out some cobwebs.
This weekend I head to Port Macquarie for Round 1 of Motostars, really looking forward to that.
