Today is a very special day for me. July 18th marks exactly 10 years since I started this blog. During that time I have published around 1500 posts (almost an average of one post every two days). I have also published nearly 150 pages of articles of a more permanent nature. I have no idea how many people have read the blog in that time but I am guessing it would be a few hundred as well.
The blog began its life as a means for me to record my experiences in motorcycling over a 40+ year span and I still haven’t finished doing that (I think I’m stuck somewhere around 2002 at the moment – I must get back to that) but it is the regular posts that have taken up most of the effort and they have been wide-ranging indeed.
While the blog is primarily about motorcycling it has ranged far and wide in subject matter. In it I have recorded the highs and lows of life, the celebrations and the commiserations, the humour and the pathos. Most of it has been serious but I have also taken plenty of opportunities to poke fun at the less serious side of motorcycling as well (“If Apple made a motorcycle”, for example).
And, in a very strange case of serendipity, next weekend I have been selected to speak at WordCamp Sydney, a yearly conference of WordPress users (WordPress is the software package that I have used to compose and publish my efforts). There I plan to share some insights into what I have found about blogging, the hows and whys, the pitfalls and the perils and share some tips from my experience with others who are travelling the same path as me.
I’d like to take the opportunity to express my sincere appreciation to all of you who have shared the last 10 years with me in either small or large measure. While I primarily write for me, so that I can express my thoughts on life, the universe and everything, I also write for you and I hope that you have found and continue to find that what I write has a measure of relevance for you.
Thanks again.
