Through a series of phone calls and messages I have been able to track down Michael Essex, one of the Aussies who proved to be so helpful in Al Lamb and Ralph Hudson’s LSR attempt in Bolivia last month. Mick has finished his Alaska to Argentina ride (yes, really) and is now back home in Oz. The other night I was able to hook up with him on Skype and he very graciously gave me the following interview. It’s about 30 minutes long but I know you will enjoy it.
I’m off to Port Macquarie for the weekend, it’s the final round of the MotoStars series and, as usual, I’ll be on the microphone. Pacific Park is a great facility and the racing in the MotoStars series continues to get better and better. If you’re anywhere near the area, I encourage you to drop in and check it out. Entry is free and you’ll get the chance to see the next generation of Aussie road racing stars first hand.
This weekend it’s Motegi, the first of the three “flyaway” MotoGp rounds that will probably decide this year’s titles. Unlike last year, the MotoGp title cannot be decided here this weekend but these next three races will be critical. As it stands it looks like the title for the big bikes won’t be decided till Valencia, something which please DORNA no end, but it will be a dog fight of that you can be sure. The event is in our time zone so check your TV guides carefully. Moto2 and MotoGp are still alive as is Moto3, well, technically. Juan Mir is only 5 points away from clinching the tiddler title and, given his consistency this season, he looks set to be crowned on Sunday afternoon.
Have a great weekend, it’s great riding weather here on the Eastern seaboard, so get out there and enjoy it.
