Firstly my sincere apologies for neglecting my duties but I do have a good reason. In a few days, probably just after the long weekend and when the petrol prices have subsided from their present ridiculous heights we will finally be heading north. You’re probably totally fed up with reading about it by now but it finally is happening.
There have been so many things to do before we can go and, while we have been ploughing through them pretty well, more and more of them seem to spring up to take their place! But major and minor works have been completed and it’s looking good. The 3×2.5m awning took some time and jiggling but it’s on and it looks like it will be great. We were very concerned that attaching it to the fibreglass roof might be a bit dodgy, but strengthening the attachment by backing it with some steel plate inside the roof has made it ferociously strong!
Then it has been a matter of maximising storage space and ensuring that we don’t pack too much. Fortunately, decades of motorcycle touring has made that task much simpler. However, we will be taking much more stuff so we are being very careful about distributing the load efficiently.
The solar setup means that we will be more than adequately provided for with electrical power, 240 and 12v outlets and places from which devices can be charged. We will have plenty of CDs to provide music on the road as well as my .mp3 player loaded with about 1000 songs.
Rain and floods of Biblical proportions swept through our area on the weekend so there was no riding, so nothing to report on the two-wheel front, but I will be keeping an eye on things and reporting on two wheeled activity as we travel around. I plan to use my blog as a travelogue so you can keep up with all of our adventures here. I will also be adding photos to my Facebook photo album as I go so you can see the pictorial record here as it grows.
The privacy on this album is set to “Public” so you don’t need to be a Facebook member to see the album.
It’s getting very serious now!
