As I have noted so many times before, it is amazing what difference a day can make. Late last week I went for a ride up to the Pie Shop. As is my usual pattern, I went up via Macquarie Pass and down Jamberoo Mountain with a quick loop through Jamberoo, Kiama and then home. And I was awful. It was just one of those days when I couldn’t do anything right. My lines were all over the place and I did just about everything wrong that you could do, despite giving myself a stern talking-to a number of times during the ride. To be frank, I was glad when I got home and put the bike away in the garage.
Yesterday I got all my chores done by lunchtime so I headed off to TFRPS, following the same route. The difference was astounding. Despite almost every aspect of the day being identical, my performance in the saddle was like chalk and cheese compared to the last time I did the ride.
What is the explanation? Heaven knows. As far as I could tell, I was doing nothing differently, but it all just “flowed”. I was so at peace with God and man that I even stopped and took some photographs before heading home. If you can explain to me how this comes to be, I’d love to hear from you!
