A few days ago I bemoaned the annual Pebble Beach “classic” car show and spoke of how the American cult of over-restoration was ruining many, many good cars that should have benefitted from being restored to as they would have been when new. Well, today a classic example turned up of exactly this stupidity.
Here is Burt Munro’s streamliner, together with its present owner, Tom Hensley and noted car buff, Jay Leno. Now if you can tell me, hand on heart, that the bike EVER looked that pristine when it was being raced I’ll retract my criticism, but I don’t think you can. I’m sorry, but I just don’t get it. I DO, however, get Mr Hensley’s personal, signwritten tool trolley in the background. 🙂
I often check in at the excellent kneeslider site, they always have something quirky and slightly off-the-wall to say and they don’t take themselves too seriously either. I haven’t been there for a while and today’s article is proof that I’ve probably missed out on some really good stuff, like THIS. Custom-made wooden tool boxes, I mean, how cool are they?
And what about this little gem? The Stelland Slugger. Honestly, it must be those long European winters that does it, but our northern cousins seem to have found a very profitable way to spend the time cooped up indoors with the snow at the door.
Tomorrow, Suzuki 600 rider, Elena Meyers, gets her ride on the Suzuki MotoGp bike at Indy. I wish her well. She will, by all reports, be the only woman to have ever ridden a MotoGp bike. What a distinction.
Oh, and I forgot so I’ve had to log on again. This year’s prize for the gratuitous use of a motorcycle and Macdonalds in the one poster goes to…..
A promotional poster for the upcoming “Tin Tin” movie. The translation is “Come as you are.”
Finally, this was posted by a friend on Facebook. Fittingly, it IS a No Through Road.
