Jakub Smrz has held off a determined challenge from a horde of Italian riders to take provisional pole at Assen overnight. Following him on times are Biaggi, Melandri and Fabrizio with Rae, Corser and Haslam the first of the non-Italians. Aussie pair, Chris Vermeulen and Mark Aitchison are propping up the tail of the field after Q1, some 2 seconds off Smrz’s time. Last year’s Superstock 600 star, Florian Marino, heads the Supersport field on the Hanspree Honda. Australian Broc Parkes, is down in 6th after first qualifying, about half a second behind the leader.

You probably remember that, last year, Suzuki released a photo montage showing the 25 years of development of the GSX-R750. It showed one model morphing into the next one until the year 2010 was reached. Well, Suzuki have done a similar thing this year, only this time it’s a video of still pictures with some “catchy” music and commentary.

Not to be outdone a (perhaps) disgruntled DRZ Suzuki owner has produced a similar effort to show the “evolution” of the DRZ.
