On Saturday night I had the pleasure of attending the 2nd annual Friends of Oran Park reunion in Sydney. Over 300 people turned up, mostly of the car racing persuasion, to reminisce about the days when OP was Sydney’s premier circuit. In light of yesterday’s post, the event was more than just a little poignant. What luminaries were there on the night, though, from both sides of the divide. John Leffler, Lynn Brown, Max Stal, Ray Berghouse, to name just a few of the car racing people.
From the two wheel fraternity there were people like Tony Hatton, Len Atlee, John Warrian, Graham Kairl, Vaughan Coburn, Eric Debenham and Jan Blizzard, as well as the irrepressible Hannan brothers. It was a huge night and I’m so glad I made the effort to go.
Photos with my mobile are not good. Nerve damage in my right hand is healing slowly but does not allow my hand to be steady enough, so please forgive the poor quality.
