doo dah, doo dah.” Was the beginning of a song (sung to the tune of “Campdown Races”) written by the comic genius, Ronnie Barker, and sung on an episode of “The Two Ronnies” many years ago. The pair had a fixation with the buxom actress and frequently included references to her statuesque figure in their sketches (Police describe the condition of a man who fell out of a second storey window and landed on Raquel Welch as “comfortable” – you get the idea)
The rest of the song went, from memory, “Is it better than the right? it’s very hard to say, But it’s the one that will get my vote on National Doo Dah Day.”
Now all of this has nothing whatever to do with today’s post, the first of 2011.
Back in the 70’s, Sydney road racer Vaughan Coburn managed to secure somewhat of a “coup” when he arranged for famous artist and illustrator, Allen Puckett, to paint the fairings on his TZ350. But not for Puckett the mere commercialism of sponsors’ names and phone numbers, oh no. Puckett was an artist so the job had to have artistic flair and so, in the end, it did. A gloriously naked lady.
Needless to say, you can imagine the sensation. But Puckett was, as I said, an artist, and, rather than duplicate the picture on the left hand side of the bike on the RIGHT side, he made the right hand side of the bike completely different.
Thanks to Derek Hanbidge from deejay51 for this image. By the way, if you can tear your eyes away from the foreground, note Murray Sayle’s TKA Kawasaki 750 in the background on the right, and, Roger Heyes’s TZ350 on the left in the background.
So, armed with that information, a question for you which I’ve always been meaning to ask but never have. Which lady would get YOUR vote on National Doo Dah Day?
Have a Happy New Year
