Followers of this column will already know that I have been less than impressed with American rider, John Hopkins. It has always seemed to me that he has been a triumph of style over substance and his less-than-stellar MotoGp career has certainly borne that out. Bad career moves and constant problems with injury have plagued him since then and now, as this article from asphaltandrubber indicates, the problem apparently goes much deeper.
For me, I lost any respect that I might have had for Hopkins after his disgraceful display at Misano a few years ago.
Hopkins would have done well to remember one of my dad’s favourite sayings, “Be nice to people you meet on the way up – they’re the people you’re going to meet on the way back down.”
