To add to the previous discussions on the impact of the FIM’s “6 engine rule” here’s the table that shows where the teams stand at the mid-term of the season.
From this you can see that the Hondas are travelling the best and that Suzuki, with the least powerful and slowest bikes, are travelling badly. It seems that the organisers are determiend to allow Suzuki 3 more engines to ensure that they do see out the season, but Lorenzo, with one engine scrapped and only 2 new engines left, will need to be very careful. Good thing he has a 72 points lead, eh?
Thanks to gpweek for this information.
In other news, Brno next weekend should see the issue of Valentino Rossi’s employment in 2011 settled, but it is also likely to be the scene of an official FIM announcement concerning Moto3, the replacement class for 125cc racing which will come into effect in 2012. Should be very interesting.
BSB Update: Andrew Pitt was hospitalised yesterday after a serious accident during Race 2 of the meeting at Brands Hatch. Pitt ran into the stranded bike of Alistair Seeley who had crashed by himself just moments before. Pitt was unsighted until it was too late to take avoiding action. Doctors have diagnosed a broken collar bone. It’s a bad break (sorry about that) for Pitt as he was due to sub for Alex de Angelis in Moto2 next weekend at Brno.
