Once again I am indebted to the excellent superbikeplanet. If this site isn’t on your Favourites list, it should be. Despite the occassional jingoism, it provides brilliant text and graphical coverage of racing and the behind-the-scenes stuff as well. Highly recommended. This photo expose, published last night, shows some of the high-tech gear that festoons the average (probably not the right choice of word there) WSBK bike. And the quirky captions that are always part of sbp’s picture pages are worth reading as well!
Here is the link to the superbikeplanet page.
For those of you who might be wondering about the obtuse reference to Eddie Lawson, it is a reference to Lawson’s major crash at Laguna Seca in 1990 when, in a devastating oversight, his mechanics failed to put pads in his front disks. On his first lap out, Lawson crashed and was seriously injured, his first major injury and a body-blow to his chances of winning the 1990 World Championship, Lawason eventually going winless that season.
On another front, I’m heading to Canberra tomorrow to pick up BBI so expect to see some shiny-shiny photos published here in the next couple of days.
And, while on the subject of superbikeplanet, there are some very good humorous articles today about Valentino Rossi and a very good interview with Davide Brivio (Yamaha Team Manager) and Dr Buzzi, the surgeon who is treating Rossi. (precis: Rossi will be out for at least 6 months).
Rossi has been discharged from hospital and is recuperating a home, and, in his first interview since the accident, told crash.net that he intends to keep racing in MotoGp for “many years to come” I could say, “I told you so.” but I’m too polite.

Must be great to be a Mechanic working with all that new technology too, those hi res shots of bike parts just makes you drool.
Are you going to get some riding in before your op? now you will have your bike back, i assume you will be on crutches for a few weeks afterwards
cheers.

The bike is being picked up tomorrow; I expect to get a short ride in on Sunday!! They say it only takes a week to recover from arthroscopic surgery so hopefully they’re right!

Oh I rugged up, that’s for sure. Funny thing, though, it wasn’t as cold in Canberra as it is here, because it’s windy here and not there. Great trip and the bike is safely installed in the garage. Pictures at 11 !
