I usually try to “space” my tyre purchases so as to limit the expense a bit. Goodness knows why it is that bike tyres cost so much more than car tyres, but, anyway.
But circumstances have conspired against that plan this time. Now I usually try to buy as “grippy” a front tyre as I can, figuring, as I always have, that you can never have too much front grip and that, as long as you know where your front wheel is heading, the rest of the bike will take care of itself.
So, a new Michelin Pilot Power on the front was a “given”. However, having been not overly impressed with the mileage from Michelin’s much-vaunted Dual Compound tyre on the rear (13600kms) and, after taking advice from a few people whose judgement and opinion I value, I went for a Pilot Power on the rear as well.
I don’t understand the technology but, apparently, the PP can give you sportsbike levels of grip while providing exceptional mileage at the same time. I can’t vouch for the mileage just yet, but I certainly am mightily impressed with the levels of grip and the confidence that the matched pair is giving me so far.
I keep an accurate record of all my servicing so I will be able to report progress on this subject as it unfolds. But, suffice it so say, so far, I am loving my Pilot Powers.
