As you will hopefully read soon when my full web site is up and running, I have another motorsport life away from motorcycling and motorcycle road racing.
For over 30 years I have been a passionate fan of speedway racing. Yep, the “cult of the flying topsoil” as Romsey Quints used to call it. Going back to the mid-60’s and the Channel 7 delayed telecasts of the Sydney Showground and Westmead Speedway, the basic, down-to-earth pursuit of holding a power slide on dirt/clay has been something that has fascinated and intrigued me.
So, it’s no surprise that, when the opportunity arrived to be involved in the local speedway at Nowra, I grabbed it. Now, every Saturday fortnight in the evening, you’ll find me in the commentary booth at Nowra calling the shots at the races.
I love speedway. It’s so elemental and accessible. It’s a true family sport and always attracts big crowds who just want to enjoy their motorsports without the frills and big egos that are typical of the high-profile motorsports.
You can find the Nowra Speedway web site at www.nowraspeedway.com where you will find details of the calendar for the summer season. Highly recommended.
