OK, rant time.
I crashed on the 7th of August. I took the bike in to be assessed on the 8th August. I made the claim over the phone on the 8th of August. On the 9th of August the bike was assessed and taken away as a write-off.
It is now the 8th of September. How come it takes a month to finalise my claim? I have called QBE about a dozen times in the last few weeks seeking details only to be told that the claim has been processed and is ready to be settled “any day now”
Last Friday (the 5th of September, I called again and talked to a gentleman called Daniel. When he asked about my claim I gave him the details and he said that he found my paperwork in a pile of papers that were due to be finalised “that day”. But first I had to sign a Release Form. I asked how I could get the form and he said that he could email it to me.
He said that, if I got the form back to him that afternoon, the payment could be made into my account.
“Great,” I said, “That would mean it would be cleared tomorrow?”
“Oh no, Mr Hall,” was the reply, “It takes 4 working days for it to be cleared into your account.” Take note of that comment, please.
So, today I checked my account when got home from school. No money. I ring QBE (again). Elouise answered the phone this time. “Would the money be in my account today? I asked.
“Well, the authorisation went in today so the money will be deposited tomorrow. The bank takes 4 working days to clear it into your account so you should have it by next Monday.”
By now, I had reached my limit. I had been very patient but my patience had run out. I exploded. I took Elouise through the above timeline and reminded her that I had been told on Friday, that the money would be IN my account today.
“I’m sorry, Mr Hall, that’s not quite correct. The Authorisation was made today but the money won’t be deposited until tomorrow.”
It was starting to sound like a broken record, with Elouise attempting to blame the bank for taking 4 working days to clear the money.
Despite demanding to speak to someone in authority (evidently they don’t have anybody fitting that description) and reminding her that, if the money were to go into my account TODAY, as had been promised, then it WOULD be cleared by Friday, she continued to duck-shove and make the bank the scapegoat for their stupidity and incompetence.
I reminded her that I was the member of a motorcycle forum on which I would be publicising the way QBE had screwed me around and she said, “Make sure you tell them that the bank takes 4 days to clear the funds.”
“Trust me, my dear,” I replied, “I will make sure that they know that you have tried to shift the blame for your incompetence onto the banks.”
“I will also advise them all that they should never insure with QBE.”
We parted the worst of enemies.
