On the freeway yesterday morning, and not before time. First of all there was a Kojak with a Kodak on the overpass at Northcliffe Drive; as usual, everybody jumps on the picks as soon as they see him, not realising that, by the time they have seen HIM, he’s already taken a pretty picture of them.
Then, at the University, there’s a camera car lurking under the bushes and, just around the corner, a HWP car mobile, heading up Mount Ousley. He’s sitting right on the limit and all the fools who usually scream up there at $1.20 are cowering back from him, not even game to go CLOSE, let alone overtake him.
He stays there, out in the right hand lane, all the way up the mountain, and, by the time we reach the exit to the freeway, he’s got a double line of traffic banked up behind him and steam coming out of all the hot-rodders’ ears.
I laughed like a drain. It looked like the parade lap at a NASCAR race when all the cars lumber around the track in formation behind the pace car!!
Then, to add insult to the injury that the speedhogs have endured for a couple of kilometres, when they start to peel off onto the F6, so does the cop car, still in the right hand lane, still sitting bang on the speed limit. I cruised on by up the old highway and left them to it.
Got my daily laugh very early yesterday!!
Glad I got it yesterday because today has been a real bummer. Firstly I get a call at tea time tonight to say that Les has succumbed to cancer this morning. Then I get a call from the panel beater to say that the damned insurance company has written off my bike, with two new tyres and a new chain (less than 2000k’s ago) AND they’ve already taken it to Sydney WITH my Staintune pipe still on it.
To say that I am furious would be the mildest of understatements.
